This upcoming week Ampeg will be announcing a Heritage series B-15 reissue. The speculation is the B-15N. Either way, it will be using 6SL7's, which I feel is a huge part of the B-15 sound.

Bob Gollihur has been importing some new basses from China, naming the line "Estle Louis" basses. He says they are high quality laminated basses. The part that intrigues me is he has a Lutheir contracted to set the basses up before shipment, so if anyone is looking to order a laminated bass via the internet these are worth a look; there will be no hidden costs. I wouldn't mind picking one up for myself as a backup bass...and to provide a detailed review for my faithful readers.

I purchased the Aguilar Tone Hammer because every now and then I would do a demo or something and want a DI box that added some colour. Using it to warm up my tone with solid state rigs was a bonus, but not the main objective. I wanted something similar to the Aguilar DB900 I stupidly sold a good 9 years ago with the addition of parametric mids.

As you have read, I am very happy with how it performs at gigs. Very happy. It makes my EA iAmp 550 Micro go from a suitable sounding amp to something I am very happy with. I am in the midst producing, mixing, and playing bass on Slingshot Cash's new album. When I first was getting into tracking I was exited to try the Aguilar Tone Hammer. That lasted about three seconds. Even through a Neve knock-off it sounded like a chinsey and cheap pedal. It isn't the type of DI you could do any sort of pro recording with. I will still use it for live stuff when playing solid state stuff, but you can call me highly disappointed.

Orange is popping up all over the place with popular music these days. I think they are really pushing them now that these low priced hybrid "terror" amps are on the market. The kids like a retro vibe and they get a transistor amp with the Orange name on it so they can brag to their friends they have the same amp as MTV's douche-bag-of-the-week. This is really bothering me. It is devaluing their entire line. I would dump my gear if I didn't sound so damn good.

It isn't like I needed another bass, but one of my hero's sold me his #2 instrument. I am very excited. A 1974 Gibson Grabber.

I know people have raved about Lindy Fralin pickups for years, but I never drank the kool-aid. I had them in a Joe Osborn 5 and thought they were decent, but not necessarily better than any other high quality pickup. Well, that was then. I have a set in my P-bass, and WOW, these really cleaned up the sound. The low end before was slightly non-descript and undefined. Other than cleaner low end, that is just as big as the AV 62 pups, all other areas of the tone was identical to the stock Av 62 pups. It was a very good decision to put these in.

MOjO Sonic cabs have a good reputation with speaker designers. Anybody have personal experience with them? They are priced pretty well and are nice and tiny.

One of my favorite Pot Pot tunes...they just released a video for it. Apparently it is the second single.
